HYC opening day 15 Oct 2022

16 Oct

Great to see 20 boats on the water for the HYC opening day on Saturday .

There were good fleets of Starlings, Laser,  and Zephyr’s with an Opti and OK dinghy as well.

Dave and TV did a good job of setting a course in a shifty and patchy Soueaster.

We managed to get in three 45 minute races, with close racing in all classes.

There was some close tussles in the Starlings with 3 different race winners (Carly, Rose and Eoghan).  There are only 1 point between the top three with Eoghan winning on count back from Rose, with Carly a single point behind. Well done also to Matteo, Aidan and Emma.

In the Zephyr’s Annie and Jack had a battle with again only one point separating them in the end. But Annie’s win in the final race secured the day for her ahead of Jack, Bob and Keith.

In the lasers the fortunes changed in every race with just about everyone leading a race at some point rather. There were some close tussles going right to the wire in all races. Scott won overall but didn’t have it all its own way with Helen winning the last race by half a boat length.

Carol and Bevan Coley fired up the barbecue at the end of the day which was welcome by the hungry sailors. There was a distribution of prizes to the juniors with chocolate going down very well.

Wednesday afternoon sailing starts this week and the learn to sail muster on Friday. Don’t forget the sprint series this coming Saturday.
