Burgess and HYC Burnsco Regattas
HYC organised two successful sailing regattas last week, with the Burgess Trophy interschool sailing regatta on Friday 28th February, and the HYC Burnsco regatta on the 1st and 2nd of March. Both events well pretty well attended. Probably the two people who struggled the most were the Race Officers for each event, John B and Brokey, as the wind was far from obliging. Fortunatlely we had great people in the committee boats so wholesale changes in the position of the marks were made efficiently.
Winning the Burgess Trophy Regatta really needs a team of atleast 5 sailors and only St Peter's and Hamilton Boys had the numbers this year, and the showdown was one quite clearly by St Peters. The strongest individual performance was from the Home School community. We had a record number of schools involved (14) but aprt fro the two big teams none of the other schools entered more than 3 sailors, so the challenge for next year is to grow these other teams.
The HYC Burnsco Regatta had a great fleet of ILCA (used to be called Lasers) but the other fleets were a bit light. One highlight of the event was having a separate junior course, which allowed their fleet to sail 9 short races.
