Hamilton Yacht Club Christmas Regatta 2024

Notice of Race (NoR)

1        RULES

1.1      The event is governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.

1.2     The Yachting New Zealand Safety Regulations Part 1 shall apply.

1.3     No Yachting New Zealand prescriptions apply.

2        SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

2.1     The sailing instructions will be available after 10a.m. 14th December 2024 at Hamilton Yacht Club

2.2     The sailing instructions will consist of the instructions in RRS Appendix S, Standard Sailing Instructions, and supplementary sailing instructions that will be on the official notice board located at HYC, Innes Common

3        COMMUNICATION

3.1     The official notice board is located at Hamilton Yacht Club, Lake Domain Drive, Hamilton

4        ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

4.1     The event is open to boats of the all monohull centreboard classes up to 4.7 m in length

4.2     Eligible boats may enter by completing the entry form and submitting it, together with the required fee, to HYC Innes Common. Entries will be accepted on 14th December 2024. 

4.3     Each competitor shall be a member of Hamilton Yacht Club or other sailing club

5        FEES

5.1     Entry fees are as follows:

6        SCHEDULE

6.1     Senior/Open Fleet Registration will occur between 9 and 10 a.m. pm on 14th December 2024

6.2     Briefing will occur at 10.15 a.m unless notified by Race Officer. 

6.3     Up to 5 races are scheduled

6.4     The first warning signal will occur no earlier than 10.30 a.m.

6.5     Learn to Sail (Level 1-3) Sailors Registration between 12 and 1 p.m. 

Fun races/activities will be organised for them on the basis of conditions and the discretion of the Green fleet Race Officer

6.5     No warning signal will be made after 4.30 p.m.

6.6     Prize giving from 5pm onwards and Christmas Dinner will be from 6 p.m. onwards. Sausage sizzle from 12pm onwards.

7             COURSES

7.1     Courses will be set by the Race Officer on Lake Rotorua and may include windward leeward, triangle, or other course designs as required to suit conditions

7.2     The marks will be large orange spheres and start and finish marks of different colours that will be described in detail at the briefing.

8          PENALTY SYSTEM

8.1     The Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty.  

9          SCORING

9.1     The scoring system is the Low point scoring systems (Appendix A)

9.2     3 races are required to be completed to constitute a series.

9.3     (a) When fewer than 5 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.

          (b) When 5 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

10      RISK STATEMENT

10.1   RRS 3 states: ‘The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue to race is hers alone.’  By participating in this event each competitor agrees and acknowledges that sailing is a potentially dangerous activity with inherent risks.  These risks include strong winds and rough seas, sudden changes in weather, failure of equipment, boat handling errors, poor seamanship by other boats, loss of balance on an unstable platform and fatigue resulting in increased risk of injury.  Inherent in the sport of sailing is the risk of permanent, catastrophic injury or death by drowning, trauma, hypothermia or other causes.

11 PRIZES

11.1   Prizes will be given as follows:

  1. 1st prize will be awarded where there are 3 competitors in class
  2. 1st and 2nd will be awarded where there are 4 or 5 competitors in class
  3. 1st, 2nd and 3rd will be awarded where there are more than 5 competitors in class

11.2  Where less than 3 boats of a specific class are present, an open class will be created and handicaps used.

12      WATER QUALITY INFORMATION

12.1 Lake Rotoroa has cyanobacteria present in the lake. The organising authority will provide most recent cyanobacteria risk information. By registering for this event, sailors acknowledge and accept the potential risks and agree to comply with all Health and Safety advice provided by the organising authority.
